I was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario but settled in the prairies, which I would later discover some of my ancestors also settled here and some even made a name for themselves. In particular, Reverend George McDougall and his sons and John C. McDougall and David McDougall. David McDougall brought the first steer back from Montana and gave birth to the Alberta Beef Industry.
I always loved photography, but didn’t get serious about the idea of taking photos until I was in my mid twenties. After a few years I realized the best way to learn about the fundamentals was to learn photography from its roots. Just like learning about my ancestors, I wanted to study a cameras ancestors.
